Patrick Jouin has teamed up with Italian glass design specialist FIAM to crystallize his agency's passion for technical challenges and its insatiable desire to question materials. The result is the Magma collection, comprising a dining table, a coffee table and a chair.
The top of the Magma tables, the signature element of the range, concentrates the greatest expertise of the publisher FIAM, a 15mm-thick sheet of tempered fused glass delicately set on a solid oak structure. The manufacturing process developed by Patrick Jouin and FIAM has made it possible to master a living material - molten glass - and to cool it by constraining its shape on a mold. This imprint creates asperities and deformations in the glass, in line with the organic inspiration chosen. Three finishes - "smoky grey", "amber" or "blue" - complete the effect.
Once mounted on its solid oak base, the tabletop reveals the beauty of its details in the light. Structurally, table and chair share the same natural oak base. The Magma chair's leather-covered seat and inner backrest provide comfort and a tactile softness that matches that of the table's tempered glass. In the design, the line of the backrest responds to the silhouette of the tabletop and its soft, rounded curves - a signature line.
